Nature-inspired design for a sustainable future
This project focused on designing a futuristic DIY kit for a Future Nomad Shelter, inspired by nature's constructive and material strategies. The challenge required creating a life-sized, innovative design starting from the invention of an original "material" and "constructive system."
Given the fashion industry's significant waste problem, the challenge was to create a fashion product for IKEA that eliminates production waste entirely, ensuring 100% fabric utilization. The solution was a modular clothing design, featuring detachable pieces that can be reassembled in various ways to suit individual tastes and extend the product’s lifespan.
The concept drew inspiration from the Australian weaver ants, which use silk to stitch leaves together when building their nests—an example of biomimicry that guided the development of the shelter’s innovative material system.
